Penny Smith has a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (Hons) from the University of New England. She is an excellent researcher with a good understanding of planning controls, legislation and has a background in construction. Penny joined DFP in April 2017 and has been working on a wide variety of complex planning projects.
Penny has a diverse background, she spent the first 12 years of her career in social issues marketing and public relations in Sydney and London. This honed her skills in communication, community and stakeholder consultation, project management and report writing. Upon her return to Australia in 2006, she and her husband built a thriving boutique construction company. Penny’s work in the construction industry fostered her interest in urban planning, which she studied concurrently with running the business. Her urban planning experience includes preparation of development applications, statement of environmental effects documents, complying development applications, clause 4.6 variations and section 96 applications.
